Goshen man killed when snowmobile crashes into reservoir

GOSHEN – A 56-year-old Goshen man was killed Monday evening when the snowmobile he was on crashed into the Goshen Reservoir. Another man with him was taken to Garnet Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill for treatment.

Goshen Village Police Chief James Watt identified the victim as Arne Jensen, 56, of Orange Avenue. He was rescued from the reservoir by the Goshen Fire Department Cold Water Rescue Team and was transported to Garnet where he was pronounced dead.

The other man, Richard Stetson, 55, of Reservoir Road in Goshen, was transported to the hospital where he was listed in stable condition, according to the chief.

State Police said the two were riding the snowmobile on the ice-covered reservoir when it gave way. Stetson was able to climb out, but Jensen went under.

On the scene were Village and Town of Goshen Police, State Police, the Goshen Fire Department and Goshen Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
