WOODBURY – A man who fled State Police on Route 32 in the Town of Woodbury after committing a vehicle and traffic violation was caught a short time later and found in possession of two kilograms of cocaine.
A trooper from the Monroe barracks stopped a 2003 BMW with Connecticut plates at around 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 6.
The driver, identified as Sherlan Simpson, 35, of Newburgh, fled the scene, but the vehicle was located a short time later at Woodbury Common. He was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit in the parking lot.
He was charged with first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession with intent to sell, and unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle.
Simpson was arraigned and remanded to the Orange County Jail without bail.
State Police were assisted by Woodbury Town Police and Woodbury Common security.
