Area tourism starts to rebound

POUGHKEEPSIE–As the coronavirus pandemic continues, tourism in the region appears to be rebounding.
Visitors during the third quarter picked up compared to when the virus shut down the entire economy this past spring.
In Dutchess County, Dutchess Tourism has been promoting staycations, local shopping, and safe travel to the county.
Dutchess Tourism President Melaine Rottkamp said the county is positioned for a faster recovery than more metropolitan areas.
“Our position is a rural, drive market, leisure destination will allow us to recover faster than urban destinations that rely on air travel and large meetings and conventions to fill their hotels,” she said.
Rottkamp said hotels in Dutchess are starting to see occupancy increase in recent months.
