Wappingers school superintendent resigns

HOPEWELL JUNCTION – At a special meeting of the Wappingers Central School District Board of Education on Tuesday evening, the board voted to approve the separation and retirement agreement of District Superintendent Jose Carrion.
Carrion has come under heavy criticism for his handling of plans to provide educational programming to students during the pandemic. Sources had told Mid Hudson News that Carrion was expected to tender his resignation on Friday, October 30.
The members of the board also named Dr. Dwight Bonk acting superintendent until a replacement can be hired. Bonk recently served as principal at John Jay High School before joining district administration.
Carrion’s separation from the district is the latest in an upheaval of employment changes. Vivien Griffin, the transportation supervisor was asked to resign.
Mid Hudson News attempted to contact Carrion at his office on Tuesday afternoon seeking comment regarding the then-rumored resignation. Carrion’s secretary said that Carrion was not working in the office for the day.
