UCRRA sees increases in residential trash

KINGSTON – During the COVID-19 “pause” earlier this year with businesses closed, the Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency saw a reduction in commercial trash, but because people were home, residential trash volume increased.
Interim agency Executive Director Tim DeGraff said that had the effect of exceeding the total volume anticipated to date.
“Through September 30th we are over our anticipated budget at the end of the third quarter by about 5.8 percent, so because of that, when I put the budget together, I wanted to make sure we held the line on our tipping fee and didn’t increase that as a way to give back,” he said.
So, in order to balance the budget going forward into 2021,DeGraffsaid they decided to tap into the reserve fund.
