A Mail Carrier Thinks Fast To Help Save A Man Cut By A Chainsaw

Letter carrier Fernando Garcia was on his daily route in Norwalk, California, when he sprang into action to save a man who had severely cut his arm with a chainsaw. The U.S. Postal Service worker heard screams for help and turned around to see a man covered in blood holding his arm.

Garcia sprang into action, using his belt as a tourniquet to stop the bleeding. He wrapped it around the man’s arm as tightly as he could and held it. The mailman says he got the idea from seeing it in movies. The injured man was taken to the hospital and his family reports that he’s starting to regain movement in his hand. And after getting a new belt and shirt, Garcia continued delivering mail.

In a tweet about the incident, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department calls Garcia an “everyday hero.”
