STEWART AIRPORT – Right now the only airline flying at New York Stewart International Airport is Allegiant Air. The COVID-19 pandemic has decimated the aviation industry. American, Delta and Jet Blue have all suspended operations with no startup dates announced.
Stewart Chief Operating Officer Oscar Hollenbach said it could be a year or more before service resumes.
“There have been a couple of airlines we ae looking at rightnowbut the recovery period is going to be probably through 2021 perhaps into 2022,” he said.
The $20 million international arrivals building, constructed as an addition to the passenger terminal, is empty. During early construction, Norwegian Airhad been flying to European destinations, but that service was terminated. Airport officials hoped that with the federal inspection station in place, that would entice other airlines to operate international service.
