NYC woman killed by train in Columbia County

GREENPORT — A 54-year-old NYC resident was killed by a southbound Amtrak train Friday night, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office. The victim has been identified as Anna Podgorbunski.
The victim was walking north on the tracks about 1.5 miles north of the Hudson train station when she was struck. Podgorbunski was pronounced dead at the scene by the Columbia County Coroner.
The incident was reported around 7:44 pm Friday to the 911 center who proceeded to dispatch personnel from the Hudson and Greenport Fire Departments, as well as medics from the Greenport Rescue Squad.
All train traffic through the area was halted. Amtrak identified the train involved in the accident as train 64 on their website. The train departed Niagara Falls at 12:17 p.m., en route to Penn Station in New York.
Investigators held the southbound train at the scene for several hours, with passengers aboard that were heading to destinations further south, including Penn Station. Amtrak officials say that two northbound Amtrak trains were held at the Hudson station until allowing to depart around 10:15 pm.
