“Walkway One Mile” Postponed to Saturday, September 5

Inaugural Walkway Over the Hudson “Walkway One Mile” Postponed to Saturday, September 5; Virtual One Mile Race Open From May 14-June 14

Participants can join the Virtual One Mile from anywhere – even on a marked course 212-feet above the Hudson River in Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (May 4, 2020) – The inaugural Walkway One Mile – ten one-mile races celebrating the 10-year anniversary of Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park – has been postponed until Saturday, September 5. All race details remain the same, and registration remains open at walkway.org/onemile. Previous registrations will automatically carry over to the new date. Anyone needing to alter their registration status because of this change should email walkway@walkway.org to do so without penalty.

Though the full race is postponed, runners, joggers, and walkers from across the Hudson Valley can still compete this spring and post their personal-bests. Everyone is invited to participate in the Friends of the Walkway’s first Virtual Walkway One Mile from May 14 through June 14 – a race that can be completed on your own time, at your own pace, from anywhere in the world including the professionally-measured and marked course on the deck of Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park. Simply track your time and distance using any device, then visit walkway.org/virtualmile to submit to our leaderboard. Next, snap a selfie and post with the hashtag #KeepUsRunning to encourage friends and family to join in. Participants will receive instructions about uploading their time in an email following their registration.

Participation in the Virtual Walkway One Mile is $10, and all entrants will receive a Walkway One Mile patch to commemorate their finish. Patches will be distributed following the conclusion of the race window. For complete details and to register, visit walkway.org/virtualmile. Anyone referring five or more runners to the Virtual Walkway One Mile will receive free entry into the Walkway One Mile heat of their choice on September 5 (excluding the Friendly Auto Group Elite Mile).

All proceeds from the Virtual Walkway One Mile will keep the Friends of the Walkway running despite cancelled events and lost days of merchandise sales due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Participation in the Virtual Walkway One Mile means that when events are safe to resume and people are again free to gather, Walkway Over the Hudson won’t miss a beat hosting popular free events like Walkway at Night and keeping transformative construction projects like the East Gate Plaza on track. Funds raised will also support the operation of an electric tram that is tentatively scheduled to begin service in the park this summer.

Walkway One Mile and the Virtual Walkway One Mile is organized in partnership between the Friends of the Walkway and Fleet Feet Poughkeepsie with support from Friendly Auto Group and the Mid-Hudson Road Runners Club.

Walkway Over the Hudson is open at this time, and a great destination to tackle your virtual mile, however all users are asked to follow the current health and safety guidelines for using the park available at parks.ny.gov/covid19. Virtual One Mile participants should wear a face covering, commit to following social distancing protocols, and not complete their race in a group.
