City of Beacon Pursues Multiple Grant Awards to Benefit Community
BEACON, NY – The City of Beacon was awarded a 2019 Water Infrastructure Improvement Act (WIIA) Grant in the amount of $856,467.00 this week. The funding will defray the cost of the replacement and construction of a new 1.5 million-gallon Fairview Water Tank. The old Fairview Water Tank held 1 million gallons and was constructed in the early 1980s.
The total cost of the project to construct a new tank is $1,481,622.61, and the grant will fund an impressive 58 % of costs. This project continues the City’s goals of upgrading our infrastructure while continuing to provide safe clean drinking water.
The City of Beacon is also taking a proactive approach to securing state, federal, and private funding for projects in an effort to lower taxes and increase the quality of life for area residents. In fact, eight grant applications designed to benefit a multitude of programs are currently underway, including youth development, senior citizen support, pollution prevention, firehouse enhancements, and more. In total, $692,024 in grant funding is currently being requested. Any grants that are awarded will enable the City to enact improvements without burdening the local taxpayer.
