GOSHEN – State Supreme Court Justice Steven Milligram has died following a bout with COVID-19, court officials confirmed. He was 66.
Milligram was elected to the state bench last fall after having served as a Monroe Town judge.
Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler said Milligram was a credit to the field of law.
“He was an excellent trial lawyer, very smart man, kind, and he had a witty sense of humor. Anyone who ever litigated against him; we lost a judge, but we lost a really good man,” said Hoovler.
State Senator Peter Harckham (D, South Salem) said Milligram “brought an incredible amount of respect, dignity and wisdom to the courtroom, first as Monroe Town judge, and since January in the 9thDistrict.”
Harckham said on the east side of the Hudson River, “we were just beginning to appreciate his kind and temperate presence. To have lost him now just makes this already sad season more mournful.”
Milligram, a native of Yonkers, graduated from the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University in 1981.
