Out-of-State Kids At Some SUNY Schools Paying IN-STATE Tuition by Mistake

Here's one way to save on college: Just lie about where you live and hope no one cares. Because it sounds like that's basically what happened here . . .

As most of us know, SUNY stands for State University of New York and includes 64 different colleges, universities, and campuses. Some local schools include SUNY New Paltz and SUNY Ulster.

Two of the biggest are Binghamton University and the University of Buffalo. And a new report found both of those schools . . . along with several others . . . have accidentally been giving out-of-state students IN-STATE tuition for years. The difference is around $10,000 per undergrad, and $12,000 for grad school.

If you checked a box on your application that said you were in-state, they just took your word for it. Auditors looked at over 1,200 grad school applications from 2015 to 2019. And 35% included little or no proof of address. So at least some of those kids probably weren't in-state, and it may have cost the schools millions in tuition.
