Suicidal woman shot after she aimed gun at police

NEW LEBANON – A suicidal woman aimed a long gun at NYS Police on Thursday and was shot by police. The unfolding story with minimal available facts was originally reported on Thursday morning.
According to the State Police, 40-year-old Sarah Craddock sustained a shotgun blast to the abdomen and was transported to Albany Medical Center for treatment.
State Police were called to a home on State Route 22 in the town of New Lebanon on Thursday at approximately 10:30 a.m. for a report of a suicidal person. Responding Troopers Erika Rodriguez and Nathaniel Chernewsky were attempting to deescalate the situation when Craddock raised a rifle in the direction of the police. Chernewsky, a Trooper with more than a year on the force, reacted by firing the shotgun in her vicinity, striking Craddock in the midsection.
His partner Rodriguez, a three-year veteran of the force joined him in rendering first-aid until medics arrived. Both Rodriguez and Chernewsky are assigned to Troop K and neither was injured during the gunfire.
The incident is still under investigation and no additional information has been provided by authorities.
