WASHINGTON – Two agencies, one in Westchester and the other in Orange County, will receive $4 million each to provide Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic programs or mental health and addiction treatment.
Westchester Jewish Community Services in White Plains and Access: Supports for Living, Inc. in Middletown will use their grant to provide 24/7 crisis response, reducing hospital and emergency department visits, increasing addiction treatment participation, and raising the bar for quality care.
“It’s no surprise that demand for mental health and substance use services has dramatically increased during the COVID-19 pandemic, and this award allows us to continue providing critical support the moment it’s needed, eliminating gaps our community has faced fighting addiction and mental health issues,” said Ron Colavito, president and CEO of Access: Supports for Living.
The funding for Westchester Jewish Community Services will support its proposal to provide substance use and mental health services for residents of Mt. Vernon and Peekskill.
“The pandemic has exacerbated our country’s ongoing mental health crisis and we must address the stark reality that significant resources are needed to meet the needs of those seeking treatment,” said Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.
“It should never be necessary for anyone to fight the battle against substance abuse and mental illness alone,” said Senator Charles Schumer. “As New Yorkers, we are stronger when we are together, and today’s federal funding will work to rally community resources and outreach surrounding mental health care and addiction treatment.”
This funding was allocated through last year’s Consolidated Appropriations Act.
