Train collides with deputy’s vehicle in Dutchess

TOWN OF WAPPINGER – A northbound Metro-North train carrying approximately 20 passengers struck a Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office vehicle that was parked on the right-of-way near the tracks in Chelsea Tuesday night around 11:30 p.m.
Dutchess County Deputy Sheriffs were conducting a search along the tracks when the collision occurred. After the crash, the train was able to stop approximately a quarter-mile north at Bank Street.
The Chelsea Fire Department and Town of Wappinger EMS were dispatched to the scene at approximately 11:42. No injuries were reported. The Castle Point Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
MTA Police and track officials arrived on the scene to evaluate the train as well as the condition of the tracks.
