An Ice Cream Store Closes Because Of How Rude People Were

Some people, hopefully not here in the Hudson Valley, say they're worried for small business owners but then they go act like this.

In Cape Cod, Mark Lawrence's Polar Cave Ice Cream Parlour in Mashpee, Mass tried to reopen with coronavirus guidelines in place on Friday. But thanks to the public, they're closed again.

Lawrence said he reopened the shop with the stipulation that customers call in their order at least one hour in advance. Apparently some didn't get the memo and became enraged when told they had to wait upon arriving and spoke to his employees using "language you wouldn't even say in a men's locker room."

In a Facebook post, Lawrence said that "in 19 years of operation this is the lowest feeling I have ever felt." One 17-year-old, he calls one of his most outstanding employees, quit after her Friday shift because of the abuse. But it's not all bad. After the media got a hold of his story, he was "inundated with calls and messages asking if they could send money or what could be done.”

Hopefully we will show how our Hudson Valley will be more supportive once our area businesses reopen.
