A Banana Duct-Taped To Wall Sells For $120,000

They say that beauty - and art - are in the eye of the beholder. And while that's true, sometimes we wonder if artists are super talented, or insane...or simply smart enough to dupe those who think they're artistically enlightened.

In any event, French artist Maurizio Cattelan appears to be smarter than the rest of us. At Miami Art Basel, he duct-taped a real banana to a wall…and it sold for $120K. Then, he sold a "second edition.” And then someone else agreed to buy a third edition for $150K. YES, REALLY!

The founder of the Perrotin Gallery said the piece symbolizes “global trade, a double entendre, as well as a classic device of humor.”
